About
Le Trunk Collectif “Best Emerging Artist prize”
Founded in 2006, Le Trunk Collectif is a Montreal based Theatre Company that uses physical theatre, clowning and dance (among other techniques) as a tool for social development and as a springboard to initiate dialogues with our audiences. Our objective is to create high-quality theatre productions that address difficult and topical social issues. We strive to break down any existing language barriers by producing plays that can be understood by both the Anglophone and Francophone communities.
Le Trunk Collectif was originally created to produce “Sunk in the Trunk - L'extraordinaire démêlé d'un clown avec l’immigration”. This first piece deals with universal themes such as immigration, intercultural conflicts, borders and private property. This piece received a very warm welcome from many audiences and was played over 100 times in Quebec, Canada and Switzerland.
In 2009, Le Trunk Collectif was honoured with the Cirque du Soleil’s “Best Emerging Artist prize” at an award ceremony held at RIDEAU, emphasizing the audacity and quality of an emerging company’s artistic project.
Directed by Lynne Cooper, co-produced by the MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) and with the support of the Canada Council for the Arts and the Conseil des arts et lettres du Québec, TRAFFIK FEMME was premiered in April 2010. Emma Haché, winner of the Governor General's literary award, was commissioned by Le Trunk Collectif to write this piece. In March 2012 TRAFFIK FEMME will be produced again in both official languages at the Segal Centre’s studio.
Le Trunk Collectif is presently working on two new projects with the creation of a new clown show called “Les Scaphandriers” which will be performed at the Segal Centre during their 2013-2014 season and a commissioned work in progress called “Chien de pavots” by Martin Choquette.
